Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Butler Family Medicine Residency Program! We think you will find our innovative, 8-8-8, Clinic-First model to be the ideal setting to learn, train, and practice. We are proud to offer two distinct and clinically excellent training experiences: the Butler Track and the Clarion Rural Track. Both tracks are fully integrated with our unique 2x2, Clinic-First Model.
Based primarily at Butler Memorial Hospital, this track offers a full-spectrum community medicine experience. As a resident here, you will be the primary driver of patient care, learning to manage complex inpatient cases, critical care, pediatric admissions, and obstetrics.
What to expect: An immersive experience where you will learn to navigate the complexities of rural healthcare, often serving as the primary point of access for your patients.
The Clinical Home: Training at Clarion places an emphasis on autonomy, resource management, community leadership, and broad-spectrum procedural skills—ensuring you graduate fully equipped to practice confidently in any rural or resource-limited setting.
Same Rigorous Curriculum, Two Locations: All our residents receive their PGY-1 foundational training in Butler. Whether you are in the Butler or the Clarion Track, your senior years of training continue to build upon that foundation.
Dedicated Faculty & Mentorship: Our faculty members are deeply committed to teaching, clinical excellence, and your personal professional development. You will receive individualized mentorship to help you tailor your residency experience to your ultimate career goals.
A Culture of Wellness and Community: We pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative, supportive, and family-friendly environment. We work hard, but we also value the well-being of our residents and celebrate the strong bonds formed within our residency family. Our curricular schedule guarantees all residents have two “golden” weekends per block.
Clinic-First Model: Our clinic model places continuity of care and the patient-physician relationship at the forefront. More time with patients means better outcomes and better longitudinal resident learning.
Applicants who interview with us are able to apply to one or both tracks. We accept 4 residents each year into each track. All residents spend their PGY-1 year in Butler. Clarion Track-matched applicants will then move to Clarion for their PGY-2 and 3 years.
We are looking for passionate, curious, and dedicated Hippocratic-minded physicians who are ready to serve diverse communities and shape the future of family medicine. We invite you to explore everything our Butler and Clarion tracks have to offer, and we look forward to meeting you during interview season.
With Warm Regards,
