About Us

WVU Medicine is proud to serve communities throughout Western Pennsylvania with high-quality, patient-centered care close to home.

Butler Memorial Hospital, Clarion Hospital, Frick Hospital, Latrobe Hospital, and Westmoreland Hospital, along with their affiliated physician practices and outpatient facilities, are part of the West Virginia University Health System and operate under the WVU Medicine brand.

Together, these hospitals bring a strong tradition of care to WVU Medicine. They are recognized for excellence in cardiology, orthopedics, and surgical services and serve communities across multiple counties in Pennsylvania. Combined, they have 925 beds, more than 1,000 physicians and advanced practice providers, and nearly 7,000 employees.

Building on a Partnership in Care

The relationship between WVU Medicine and Westmoreland Hospital began before the hospitals joined the WVU Health System. In January 2025, Westmoreland Hospital partnered with WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital to enhance Neonatal Intensive Care Unit services for vulnerable newborns.

The West Virginia University Health System is an academic health system serving communities across West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Maryland. With the addition of the five Western Pennsylvania hospitals, the system includes 30 hospitals.

Being part of WVU Medicine connects local, community-based care with the resources of a larger academic health system while supporting continued access to care close to home.
