First-Year Residents

Jason Grullon, MD

Jason Grullon, MD

Medical School: SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY

Undergraduate: DePauw University, Greencastle, IN

I am originally from NYC, and my path to medicine has taken me in many directions — from published research to global health work and local community engagement.

The program's clinic-first model and the program leadership made the choice to come here easy. I'm proud to help build something from the ground up as part of Butler's very first resident class. This place is a hidden gem, with Pittsburgh's academic firepower close by and even more on the way as the residency merges with WVU Medicine.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy traveling, getting my hands dirty in the garden, and experimenting with electronics.

Nisha Mittal, MD, MPharm, MScBR

Nisha Mittal, MD, MPharm, MScBR

Medical School: St. George's University, Grenada

Undergraduate: Aston University, UK

Nisha was born in Wolverhampton, UK, and from an early age developed a fascination with the life sciences. She began her career at Aston University in Birmingham, where she completed her integrated Master’s degree in Pharmacy with Honours. Following graduation, she worked as a Pharmacist Manager, taking on leadership roles in clinical governance, information governance, and health and safety. She also led pharmacy acquisitions and independently led the merger of her pharmacy into a primary care center, helping integrate pharmacy services within primary care.

During this time, she led several public health initiatives, including influenza vaccination programs, NHS Health Checks, methadone replacement therapy, smoking cessation, weight loss management, Pharmacy First services for minor ailments, and medicines optimisation, as well as leading multiple clinical audits. It was while completing her Independent Prescribing qualification in hypertension and heart failure within UK general practice that her passion for medicine was reignited.

Nisha went on to pursue her MD and a Master’s in Biomedical Research in Anesthesia at St. George’s University in Grenada, completing her clinical rotations in the United States. She also led COVID-19 vaccination clinics in the UK during the global pandemic.

She was drawn to Butler Memorial Hospital’s Family Medicine Residency Program for its unique clinic-first and unopposed curriculum, which allows for early continuity of care and the development of strong patient relationships—something she deeply valued in her pharmacy career.

Nisha is passionate about serving underserved communities and has a particular interest in pursuing a future fellowship in Pain Medicine. Outside of medicine, she enjoys swimming, writing poetry and medical narratives, and looks forward to exploring the world as a gastronomic adventurer. She is also a proud fan of Harry Potter, a cultural icon she sees as a modern British emblem.

Odera Yvonne Nwankwo, MD

Medical School: St. George's University, Grenada

Undergraduate: University of Vermont, Burlington, VT

Born and raised in Nigeria, my journey into medicine has been shaped by resilience, faith, and formative experiences with compassionate family physicians whose impact on their communities inspired me. Their ability to provide continuous, relationship-centered care solidified my decision to pursue Family Medicine, allowing me to address not only medical conditions but also the social and family contexts that influence health.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences from the University of Vermont and my medical degree from St. George’s University, completing clinical rotations across the United States. Through volunteering in hospitals, underserved communities, and assisted living facilities, I developed a deep appreciation for continuity of care and the importance of building trust with patients over time.

I was immediately drawn to the Butler Family Medicine Residency for its strong commitment to community engagement, supportive learning environment, and emphasis on comprehensive, patient-centered care. Its location, enhanced by its proximity to Pittsburgh, offers a well-rounded clinical experience across both rural and suburban populations, and I am truly excited to be part of this program and grow into a compassionate, caring physician.

My hobbies include prayer, meditation, baking, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends.

Youstina Seliman, DO

Medical School: Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, PA

Undergraduate: Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA

I am from Pittsburgh and I love it because this is where I grew up. I went to Duquesne University for Undergraduate and LECOM for medical school. This program has many strengths:

  1. It follows a Clinic First Model. This is great because I want to pursue ambulatory medicine. Practicing continuity of care early will allow me to develop the necessary skills to tune in to my patients healthcare needs. Thus, giving them the best treatment possible.
  2. It is Close to Home allowing me to stay close to my family and community.
  3. This program is focused on serving the community. I have previous experience in teaching and will utilize those skills in teaching my patients how to be proactive in managing their own health.
  4. This is an unopposed program. Thus, residents will get to have the maximum opportunities for learning through direct patient care.

Medical School: St. George's University, Grenada

Undergraduate: University of Idaho, Moscow, ID

Growing up in Boise, Idaho with both American and Norwegian family background I gained an early appreciation for diverse perspectives and cultures. I chose family medicine as it allows me to have a broad and diverse patient interaction, as well as build lasting relationships with families across generations.

Butler Family Medicine Residency stood out as the perfect fit. I was immediately drawn to the warm, caring culture of the faculty and the community. The Clinic-First model, with its strong focus on continuity, perfectly aligns with my desire to form long-term, trusting relationships with patients and families. I am especially excited by the wide variety of tracks and opportunities that will allow me to further explore my current interests in sports medicine and mental health.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy cooking, skiing, traveling, playing piano, and exploring the outdoors. I look forward to discovering what the Butler County area has to offer.

I am thrilled to join Butler Family Medicine Residency, and contribute to this growing legacy of excellent family physicians.
