Independence Health System Welcomes New Primary Care Providers to North Huntingdon Area

Colleagues in residency training, two new primary care providers are now colleagues in neighboring practices at Independence Health System serving patients in the North Huntingdon area. Michael Thomas, DO and Jon Nicassio, DO join the health system following their three-year family medicine residencies at Heritage Valley Health System-Beaver.
Dr. Thomas will see patients at The Square at Norwin, 8775 Norwin Avenue. North Huntingdon, PA 15642, as a member of the team of Primary Care-Norwin. Dr. Nicassio joins Primary Care-North Huntingdon, 8791 Barnes Lake Road, Suite 101, Irwin, PA 15642.
Both physicians have ties to Westmoreland County.
Dr. Nicassio grew up in Harrison City, where his family remains a familiar name in the Penn-Trafford area. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. Prior to enrolling at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, he worked as an emergency medical technician with Penn Township Ambulance Rescue 6 and as an emergency department technician at Independence Westmoreland Hospital. Dr. Nicassio is the married father of a toddler son. He enjoys oil painting, 3-D modeling, video editing and graphic design, and caring for the family cats.
Dr. Thomas earned his undergraduate degree from Saint Vincent College, where he was captain of the cross-country and track team. A native of Pittsburgh’s South Hills, he graduated from Chartiers Valley. He received his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine-Erie. In his free time, Dr. Thomas enjoys long distance running, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, playing guitar and ballroom dancing.
