Independence Health System hospitals named among Forbes’ Top Hospitals in Pennsylvania

GREENSBURG, Pa., Aug. 27, 2026 — Independence Health System's Latrobe and Westmoreland hospitals have been named to Forbes' inaugural Top Hospitals By State 2026 list, recognizing their performance across key measures of quality and patient care.

Forbes’ national Top Hospitals 2026 list evaluates general acute care hospitals using 56 validated healthcare quality measures extracted from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Provider Data Catalog. Hospitals are assessed in four weighted categories: patient outcomes (55%), best practices (20%), value (15%), and patient experience (10%).

To create the state list, Forbes first identified hospitals that earned an Overall Hospital Quality Rating on their national Top Hospitals 2026 list. It then selected, on average, the top 30% of hospitals in each state based on those ratings.

In total, 781 hospitals made Forbes’ state list, which represented an average of about 15 hospitals per state across 50 states and Washington, D.C.
