Schnur to serve as president and CEO of Butler Memorial and Clarion hospitals

BUTLER, Pa. — The West Virginia University Health System today announced the appointment of Matthew Schnur, Pharm.D., as president and CEO of Butler Memorial Hospital and Clarion Hospital. 

Schnur brings more than a decade of healthcare leadership experience to the role and a deep familiarity with the hospitals, their teams, and the communities they serve. He began his career at Butler Memorial Hospital after earning his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Duquesne University and completing a postgraduate pharmacy practice residency at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. 

Over the course of his career, Schnur advanced through a series of leadership roles, including director of pharmacy and vice president of ancillary services, before being named president of Butler Memorial Hospital and Clarion Hospital within Independence Health System. He also remains active in the community through service on various boards and advisory councils.

The executive leadership team for Butler Memorial Hospital and Clarion Hospital includes: 

Michael Fiorina, D.O., F.A.A.F.P., chief medical officer, is a board-certified family physician and western Pennsylvania native. He most recently served as chief medical officer for Independence Health System after previously serving as associate chief medical officer for Butler Memorial Hospital and Clarion Hospital. 

Mindy Dunkerley, M.B.A., B.S.N., R.N., vice president of quality and regulatory affairs, is a Butler County native with nearly 30 years of healthcare leadership experience. She most recently served as chief quality officer for Independence Health System. 

David Rottinghaus, M.D., president of the affiliated medical groups, will continue in his current role. An active emergency medicine physician at Butler Memorial Hospital, he most recently served as president of the physician and provider network for Independence Health System. 

Thomas Albanesi, interim chief financial officer, will serve in the role while the System conducts a search for a permanent chief financial officer for Butler Memorial Hospital and Clarion Hospital. 

The System is also recruiting a chief operating officer for Butler Memorial Hospital and a director of operations for Clarion Hospital.
