The Latrobe Area Hospital Charitable Foundation was pleased to award two outstanding students with $10,000.00 Shaw Gamble Nursing Scholarship. Recipients of the Shaw Gamble Scholarships are selected based on academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and their expressed interest in pursuing a career in nursing.
Derry Area High School Honor Student, Addyson Gustafson, was described by her teachers as a determined student with a magnificent attitude and kind demeanor. The scholarship is well deserved as she has clearly always worked hard to set academic goals and persevered in achieving them. When she was not studying, she volunteered at the K.I.N.D. closet in school and at the Westmoreland County Food Bank.
Giving back to those in need has always been encouraged by Addyson's parents. In fact, it is her mother, a dedicated home health nurse, who influenced her decision to pursue a career in nursing, a profession focused on helping others. She will study nursing at Seton Hill University this fall, and she aspires to be a labor and delivery nurse upon graduation.
Ligonier Valley High School student, Kaitlyn Fieldson, is no stranger to balancing athletics, academics, and extracurricular activities. This accomplished young woman honed her teamwork and leadership skills as a member of the LVHS Cheer Squad and the Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps. She will follow many of her family members into a career in healthcare where commitment to service and community are a family focus.
Kaitlyn will attend the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg starting this fall where she will study nursing. She aspires to be a NICU nurse upon graduation, and we are confident that her learned discipline and compassionate heart will ensure that she finds success in this all important role.
We wish both Addyson and Kaitlyn much academic success and look forward to having them join the ranks of the talented nurses that dedicate their careers to healing patients and changing lives.
