“ I was very happy with the care. Dr. Ogawa is very positive. He was very skilled at what he did; He didn't leave much of a scar. And the nurses were great! They were just so friendly and it was so genuine. A lot of times you go places and they just do their job, but here it was like they really cared a lot and you could tell they meant it.”
Michael’s journey began unexpectedly in the early hours of the morning. Around 3 AM, he woke up with an uneasy feeling. He couldn’t quite identify what was wrong, but he instinctively knew something wasn’t right. At his wife’s suggestion, he agreed to go to the emergency room, a decision that was out of character for someone who rarely visited doctors.
Once he arrived, the medical team acted quickly, and he was transported by ambulance to Westmoreland Hospital. It was a scary moment, but one that led to a life-saving discovery. Michael underwent an extensive multiple bypass surgery, ultimately receiving five grafts — more than the three initially planned as the complexity of his condition became clear during the procedure.
Throughout his care, Michael felt reassured by the skill and positivity of Dr. Ogawa, who performed the surgery with expertise and left minimal scarring. Michael was equally impressed by the nursing staff, describing them as genuinely caring and friendly. Unlike other healthcare experiences, he could tell the team truly cared about his well-being and said, "The nurses were great! They were just so friendly and it was so genuine. A lot of times you go places and they just do their job, but here it was like they really cared a lot, and you could tell they meant it."
Now on the other side of recovery, Michael reports feeling better than he has in years. He’s lost a significant amount of weight — so much so that he needed a new wardrobe. He is grateful for the care that changed his life.
