“ The staff has done outstanding jobs, and every one of them was very friendly and very helpful.”
What began as a normal Sunday morning turned into a life‑or‑death emergency for Barb Nesbitt. After returning from church, she suddenly collapsed in her kitchen and went into cardiac arrest. Her son, Dr. Scott Nesbitt, immediately began CPR until paramedics arrived and rushed her to Independence Health System.
Barb had gone without oxygen for several minutes and arrived comatose, leading Scott to fear the worst. But testing revealed she had not suffered a heart attack—a hopeful turning point that marked the beginning of an unexpected recovery.
Scott says the care his mother received exceeded every expectation. “As a doctor myself, I trust the doctors here at Independence Health System. It made me feel good to see the personal touch we received.” He emphasized that the team’s compassion meant as much as their expertise.
Today, Barb is thriving. Throughout her recovery, she was moved by how many staff members recognized her story and offered encouragement. She now proudly shares her experience as a testament to the life‑saving care she received at Independence Health System.
