Independence Health System Welcomes Orthopedic Surgeon to Medical Staff at Butler Memorial Hospital

Independence Health System Welcomes Orthopedic Surgeon to Medical Staff at Butler Memorial Hospital

BUTLER, Pa., March 5, 2026 – Independence Health System today announced the addition of board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Anthony Mustovich, DO, FAAOS, to the medical staff at Butler Memorial Hospital.

With more than a decade of experience as an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Mustovich specializes in sports-related injuries and joint replacement surgery. He has a particular interest in the Jiffy procedure, an advanced knee replacement technique designed to preserve muscle and tendon structure, resulting in faster recovery and reduced postoperative pain. Unlike traditional knee replacement procedure methods, the Jiffy approach avoids cutting muscles and tendons. Instead, surgeons gently lift them aside, utilizing specialized instruments and techniques in an effort to minimize soft tissue trauma and support quicker rehabilitation.

Dr. Mustovich obtained his medical degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a general surgery internship at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia. During his military service, he served as a battalion flight surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry Division Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Riley, Kansas. He also served as the medical director of the Novosel Aviation Clinic. After completing a surgical residency at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, he became chief of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Bassett Army Community Hospital in Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Following his military service, he returned to western Pennsylvania to practice medicine in the community where he grew up.

“As a doctor of osteopathic medicine, I take a whole-person approach to orthopedic care,” Dr. Mustovich said. “My focus is not only on treating the injury or condition, but also on helping patients restore function, reduce pain and return to the activities they enjoy as quickly and safely as possible. I look forward to collaborating with the medical staff at Independence Health System and enhancing the orthopedic services we provide to the community.”

Dr. Mustovich will see patients at 480 East Jefferson Street in Butler. To schedule an appointment, call 833-604-7214. Orthopedic Walkin Clinics are also available at that location for individuals 12 years and older on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., with no appointment required. The clinic provides care for acute orthopedic and sports-related injuries, including ACL tears, knee pain, dislocations, sprains, strains, and other injuries.
