Independence Health System to Honor Pregnancy and Infant Loss with White Pumpkin Remembrance Event

Independence Health System to Honor Pregnancy and Infant Loss with White Pumpkin Remembrance Event

GREENSBURG, Pa, September 29, 2025 … To honor Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in October, Independence Health System will host its annual Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance on Oct. 5, 2025.

This year’s remembrance will center around the theme of a white pumpkin, inspired by the poem The White Pumpkin, written by Jennifer Giles, a mother who experienced pregnancy loss. Her poem will be shared at the event as a tribute to families who have endured similar grief.

A local family will also attend to share their personal story of loss and the journey that followed, offering a heartfelt perspective of healing and remembrance.

According to the Pregnancy After Loss Support organization, one in four pregnancies in the United States ends in miscarriage, and one in 160 ends in stillbirth.

“Every year, we offer a new theme for remembrance, but the message is always the same: Though some of our family is no longer with us, they are remembered, and they are family,” said Dr. Randi Turkewitz. “We hope the remembrance serves as a place where people can come for support and that we can build a community of individuals who understand and cherish the memories of those babies that left this earth too soon.”

The event welcomes all individuals and families who have been touched by a loss or who wish to show support through their presence. Attendees will have the opportunity to create a white pumpkin in remembrance of their loved ones. Light refreshments will be served.
