Dr. Michael Smith Joins Independence Health System Urology

BUTLER, Pa., Oct. 8, 2025 — Independence Health System is pleased to announce the addition of Michael Smith, DO, to the Urology team at its Benbrook offices, further enhancing the system’s urological care services.

Dr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Gannon University in Erie, Pa., and a medical degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a residency in urologic surgery at Franciscan Health Olympia Fields in Olympia Fields, Ill. 

Dr. Smith treats a wide range of urologic conditions, including bladder and prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), kidney stones, erectile dysfunction and incontinence. His surgical expertise encompasses minimally invasive procedures for BPH, robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy, kidney stone surgery, stress incontinence surgery and penile implant placement.
