Independence Health System Opens Comprehensive Cardiology Building

GREENSBURG, PA, June 5, 2025 … Independence Health System (IHS) today announced the grand opening of its expanded Cardiology Services building, designed to provide streamlined, high-quality care for the community in one integrated building.

“This milestone makes a significant leap to provide efficient and effective cardiology care to Westmoreland County,” said Denise Addis, Vice President, Cardiovascular Service Line. “Independence Health System is committed to offering expert cardiology care here, close to home, so that patients don’t have to travel long distances for comprehensive testing and treatment, especially at times when they’re experiencing health challenges.”

The services include the following:

Ground Floor

Interventional Cardiology

The interventional cardiology team diagnoses and treats coronary artery disease and structural heart diseases. The providers use specialized imaging or other diagnostic techniques to ensure that blood flow and pressure in the arteries and chambers of the heart are operating normally.

Anticoagulation Clinic

The outpatient clinic is pharmacist-managed and is dedicated to caring for patients at risk for blood clots. The team consists of a board-certified pharmacist and specially trained anticoagulation nurses who manage patients taking anticoagulants, also known as blood-thinners, who collaborate with the cardiologists to provide specialized medication monitoring, education, lab testing and medication adjustments to ensure that the therapy is as safe and effective as possible. The Anticoagulation Clinic has achieved Center of Excellence Status since 2003 and is one of 150 Anticoagulation Clinics nationwide to achieve this status.

First Floor

Cardiology

An expert team of cardiologists is available to help with the medical management of heart disease. Working closely with primary care providers, Independence Health System offers offer consultations, preventive treatment options, and more.

Heart Failure Clinic

The clinic helps manage heart failure through a comprehensive approach. It also serves as an educational resource aimed at reducing or preventing hospital readmissions and increasing understanding of heart failure — including the disease process, diet, medications, and symptoms — to improve quality of life.

Second Floor

Cardiac Surgery

Highly trained cardiothoracic surgeons perform open heart procedures – bypassing blockages and fixing or repairing faulty heart valves when necessary through minimally invasive cardiac surgery and robotic surgery.

Cardiac Electrophysiology and Cardiac Device Clinic

When heart rhythms are out of sync, electrophysiologists use a variety of tests to check the electrical condition of the heart and to diagnose any problems with a variety of treatment options available from immediate treatment to ongoing support.

“Now that the cardiology building is complete, it helps augment continuity and care for patients,” said James Adisey, MD. “Not only does it enable comprehensive cardiothoracic care in one building — it’s directly across the street from Westmoreland Hospital and the cath labs, making it easier for providers to care for patients in the office, while quickly managing emergencies if needed, due to the proximity. This is a true collaborative cardiothoracic center.”

In recent research from Healthgrades, Independence Health System Westmoreland Hospital was ranked #1 in Pennsylvania for Coronary Intervention Procedures.

A ribbon cutting ceremony and public tours were held on Thursday, June 5.

Independence Health System Cardiology is located at Medical Commons Three, 44 South Washington Avenue, Greensburg, PA 15601.
