Roger Lutz Named to Becker’s 2025 List of Top Hospital CIOs

BUTLER, Pa., August 5, 2025 — Roger Lutz, chief information officer of Independence Health System, has been named one of Becker’s Hospital Review’s “Hospital and health system CIOs to know” for 2025. He is recognized among 148 national leaders for driving innovation, cybersecurity and digital transformation across healthcare.
With 30 years of experience in information technology (IT), data communication and information security, Lutz oversees IT operations for Independence Health System’s five hospitals: Butler Memorial, Clarion, Frick, Latrobe and Westmoreland. He played a pivotal role in the successful merger of Butler Health System and Excela Health, unifying IT teams and systems while improving efficiency and reducing costs.

Under his leadership, the information services team now ranks in the top quartile for efficiency among peer organizations. Lutz also continues to strengthen the system’s cybersecurity posture, ensuring the protection of patient data across the newly formed, billion-dollar health system.
