Meet Sierra Colwell, RN, B.S.N at Independence Health System. She's been with the health system for 7 years and currently works in the ICU at Clarion Hospital

"My job includes providing physical care, managing, educating and advocating for critically ill patients in the Clarion County area. I am also one of the main preceptors for the ICU at Clarion Hospital.

The most rewarding part of my job is interacting with my community. I love hearing the life stories of my patients and their families. I am passionate about teaching and lifetime learning. I take great pride and joy in precepting students from the local community college. Nursing is just as much of an art as it is a science. In leading by example, I am hoping to be part of the positive change, that I want to see in the world.

After my sophomore year of college, I started at Clarion Hospital as a Nurse Extern on the MedSurg floor. I am grateful for this program as it not only helped me gain confidence in my skills and abilities as a nurse but also as a person. I would recommend the Nurse Extern Program at IHS to any nursing student, it's a very valuable resource for future nurses.

I also utilized tuition reimbursement, which eased the financial burden of attending college for a four-year program. I began working in the ICU at Clarion Hospital in January of 2020 right before COVID-19 took over the world and I have remained here ever since. A special thank you to my wonderful co-workers for their patience and guidance as I learned to become a valuable member of the team."
