About the Provider
Robert L. Waltrip, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon with Tri Rivers Musculoskeletal Centers and sees patients at its Crossroads Campus and Cranberry/Mars offices, as well as at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. He is a member of the Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery team. After earning his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, he attended Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and then completed his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Waltrip conducted a sports medicine and shoulder fellowship with the internationally renowned Drs. James Andrews and Bill Clancy at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Ala. There, he refined his skills in sports medicine, arthroscopy and joint replacement surgery. In 2005, he joined Pittsburgh-based Tri Rivers where his orthopedic practice focuses on shoulder and knee surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, with a subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. Dr. Waltrip is a clinical instructor in the orthopedic surgery department at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society and the Allegheny County Medical Society. As part of AAOS, Dr. Waltrip served on a national committee evaluating clinical guidelines for rotator cuff repair. He also performs computer-guided shoulder joint replacement surgery.
